This question about the Giant Screens Ratio could seems simple to respond but it is not - because there is not a clear cut answer.

As it often happens both in business and life indeed, the correct answer is "Depends On What You Want To Achieve!"

Here is why:

Euro Display giant screens are simply a Huge DVI Monitor (as explained in the Giant Screens Plug&Play post of November 23rd).

Therefore the Aspect Ratio is surely important if you want to broadcast Standard Size Content such as TV Ads, Commercials, TV Shows, DVDs, Movies or Live Events.

Standard aspect ratios are exactly those used for monitors and televisions: 4:3 and 16:9

Please note that within the Giant Screens industry, is not always possible to respect to the pixel such ratios. Therefore Any Rectangular Shape (even 3:2 or 8:5) can be considered standard.

So thats about the Standard Aspect Ratio Screens. But what if you have a Customized Ratio Screen for a specific installation? Lets say that you want to install a "stripe" along the roof of your company - 10 x 1 meters (ratio 10:1)

Well, in this case the Aspect Ratio doesnt matter anymore: in fact Euro Display modular concept makes Giant Screens suitable for Any Kind Of Installation (truss, walls, roofs, stage) - and does not set Any Limit In Shape, Size And Resolution.

So, just to summarize: "Is Aspect Ratio Important On Giant Screens?" -- "Well, Depends On What You Want To Achieve!"

Last month Euro Display installed a 480 x 320 pixel Giant Screen near the wonderful Sicilian Sea - as you can see in the picture above.

The Giant Screen is a 3 x 2 meters structure assembled in one single piece (therefore not modular) with a Visual Pixel Pitch of 6mm.

This installation, with such amazing surroundings, was A Real Challenge for our technical department, For Three Main Reasons:

• BRIGHTNESS - Sicily is probably the most luminous region in Italy! For this reason we had to make sure the LEDs used for the Giant Screen would have been bright enough to contrast the direct sun light.
  
  
  
• HEAT - When the warmest Italian Sun face the installation most of the day, the situation is very similar to an Arab country or a Semi-Desertic region. But as you know, in order to guarantee the long life-time of LEDs it is necessary to keep the internal temperature as low as possible.
  
  
  
• SALTINESS - The Giant Screen was installed just a few meters from the Sea (as you can see from the picture) with all the huge problem of corrosion that the saltiness can bring.

Our technical department was able to Successfully Overcome All These Problems - unfortunately I can't tell you exactly HOW because these are confidential information, not meant to be shared on a public website!

Also, due to this Standard System, you are not linked to Euro Display in anyway: if the control unit (the PC) should stop working for whatever reason, you can run to the next shopping mall and Quickly Get A New One - so You Save Your Advertising Time (and Customers) - and deal with the PC problem afterwords!

That's important because you dont depend on us to manage your equipment!
