Probably The Biggest Mistake In LEDwalls Advertising Is…

Print|Email|Add Your Comment

The other day I received the following question through the yellow note here on the right: "hi fabio, seems that ledwall advertising is just emphasis on video rather than audio-video. Do you think this is an disadvantage? thanks"

Very good question. If LED screens are like huge televisions, why people don't use it as such? Why they don't take full advantages of the great combination of audio and video?

I think that yes, it is absolutely a disadvantage because a better media is the one that involves as many senses as possible: the more senses are involved the better the message will stick in our memory.

Furthermore the sound is one of the most powerful channels we use to communicate and interact with the world. Probably it's second only to sight (and body language). So why than most ledwall advertising companies do not use it?

The problem is not technical. All Euro Display screens are equipped with the audio output, to which you could plug speakers of any type and power. Actually in the entertainment business (concerts, fashion shows etc), our proEVENT modules are used in combination with sound to boost the crowds at these great events...

So I guess there are two main reasons why LED advertising companies don't use audio:

First: due to the laws in the country where the screen is installed. Sometimes in order to add a soundtrack to your commercials you will be asked to pay taxes. In other cases, there might be a more strict law that just prohibit it (and in this case there is not much you can do).

The second reason is because they just never thought of it!

But these are just my assumptions and I'll be glad to hear from you some direct experiences. So if you feel like leaving your comments, thanks for sharing.

Hi, there! Responding to the question about audio part of leds. I've been working for over a year for an advertising agency organised solely to provide customers for a single led (the first one to apear in my hometown, i'm from so-to-say hardcore provincial russian town pop. over 400,000). As you pointed out, the reason for non-sonic leds is the law in many countries. The local laws make it clear that any kind of advertising media involving sound consider to be mass media, hence higher taxes, higher requirements to the content. Only once a year we have a permission to broadcast with sound - new years eve - the greatest holiday in Russia - and the cover is high-ranked officials greeting people from our screens (a dull procedure - each year almost identical videos), but for 3 days a year i can generate quite a different playlist, even including vids of my favorite bands, etc. As for the rest of the year, i don't think it's just a good idea for us to have sound all the time - as i noticed from sound-equipped leds in other towns, people get so annoyed by the sound , not by the led itself. The thing is that our led is situated in the very downtown - people here walk most of the time or wait for transport - so if you get annoyed by the ads on the screen you just look the other way, but there's no turning sound off. So I think we are better off this way
